What should I know about abortion?
As with any major medical decision, you will want to make sure you’re fully informed about available abortion methods and potential side effects when considering your options. Empowering women with the information they need to make the best possible decision for themselves is one of our goals as a center. If you’re considering abortion, there are a few questions you’ll need to be able to answer before taking your next steps in the decision-making process.
Am I really pregnant?
For numerous reasons, 1 in 4 pregnancies can end naturally in miscarriage. Additionally, home pregnancy tests still have a margin for error, and they aren’t a medical confirmation of pregnancy. Learn whether you’re really pregnant with free lab-quality pregnancy testing and limited ultrasound services by requesting an appointment at our free clinic.
How far along am I?
The abortion methods available to you depend on the gestational age of your pregnancy. This is easily determined by a limited OB ultrasound, which we can perform at no cost to you. An ultrasound will also determine where your pregnancy is located. If it has implanted somewhere other than the uterus, that is called an ectopic pregnancy, and it can be fatal if not treated immediately.
Do I have an STI/STD?
If you’ve had unprotected sex, you are at risk for a sexually transmitted disease. STI/STDs left untreated can cause serious health complications, and if you have an abortion with an untreated STI/STDs, it greatly increases your risk for Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID.) PID can cause infertility, repeated infection, abscesses, ectopic pregnancies and chronic pain. Our staff will provide you with more information about STI/STDs and how to know if you need to get tested.
Is there really any other option for me?
An unexpected pregnancy can often be overwhelming. Experiencing so many emotions all at once can make things seem hopeless or make you feel trapped. It is your body and completely your choice; we simply want you to be in a place where you understand that each option can be a possibility for you. That way, you truly have all the information you need to make the most empowering decision for you.
